Nobody wants to ask this out loud. You booked the bus, the day went well, and now you are standing in a parking lot in Arlington wondering what is normal.
Here is the plain answer for the DFW market.
The short version
Most groups tip 10 to 15 percent of the trip total. On a $900 wedding shuttle that is $90 to $135. On a $2,400 multi day trip it is $240 to $360.
Some groups prefer a flat daily number instead. In DFW that usually runs $50 to $100 per day for a local run and more for long days or overnight trips.
Both approaches are fine. Pick whichever is easier for you to hand over.
When tipping matters more
A few situations move people toward the higher end.
Long days. A driver who starts at 5am for a DFW airport run and finishes after midnight earned it.
Lots of stops. Wedding shuttles often mean loops between a hotel, a church, and a venue for hours. That is real work.
Loading help. Band trips, sports gear, church retreat luggage. If the driver was lifting bags all day, say thank you with the tip.
Bad traffic handled well. Anyone who gets a group out of an AT&T Stadium parking lot after a Cowboys game without drama deserves something.
When you can skip it
Short local hops. A single pickup and dropoff across Mansfield that takes 40 minutes does not need 15 percent. Ten or twenty dollars is a normal gesture.
Tipping is never required. No good operator will hold it against you.
How to actually hand it over
Cash at the end of the trip is simplest and the driver gets it same day.
If you would rather not carry cash, tell us when you book and we can add gratuity to your invoice. We pass it straight through.
For group trips where everyone chips in, collect before the day. Chasing people for five dollars in a parking lot at 1am is nobody’s idea of fun.
One thing people get wrong
Gratuity is not built into your quote unless you ask for it. Some companies bundle it in and do not say so. We do not. Your quote is the transportation cost, and what you do beyond that is your call.
